How wealthy is the Queen? Not as rich as you think.

The Queen's fortune is just a mere 3pc of the richest Briton, the Duke of Westminster, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index

Prince Charles ‘hammers’ out a deal to purchase home improvement store

Prince Charles has paid £35million to buy the Milton Keynes B&Q branch.

B&Q PLC, formerly known as Block & Quayle, is a British DIY and home improvement company.

The shop, located on 117,000 square feet of land will be part of the Duchy of Cornwall’s portfolio.

I wonder why?  Does The Duchy have any other commercial stores in its portfolio?  I would think that kind of venture wouldn't generate the long-term capital gains The Duchy would be looking for.  Maybe Chuck is looking for something for Harry to do…a do-it-yourself managerial position might be fun.

this is an interesting comment

At the moment I am reading ancient copies of Punch, ( don't ask! We found them in the attic ).
I've got to 1947, and the days of strict post-war austerity. Massive cuts in capital spending from Parliament, cuts in food imports, terrible weather, fuel , food and clothing shortages..all in bombed out, exhausted Britain.
Her Maj, as Princess Elizabeth had just married, and the old King wrote to Parliament waiving her increase in allowance, given that the country as in such straits..he took the payments on himself.
Later on there was a very lively debate in the Commons on the subject....but I waffle.
Could the Queen not refuse this proposed rise? As a mere serf, I think she should, given that we're in for a bumpy ride.

20,000 British Pounds per month, huh?  I guess I'm not going to be staying there during my next trip to the UK.  Great location, lovely furnishings, close to restaurants and entertainment...it would be perfect.  Except for that pesky rent rate.
